Hey, Mr. Cycling Enthusiast Man, the traffic laws of red lights apply to YOU, too.

Reasons like this are why I want to become a cop and become cyclists worst nightmare.

Me too. Big long bike path where I live, and lots of cycling events happen nearby. I'm not going to say its ALL of them, but a lot of the ones I see (and the joggers.... ooooh, the JOGGERS) ignore traffic lights and jump out onto streets without looking. And ride two abreast on twisty two lane roads.

I see that now and again and it just blows my mind. Assuming you don't like pain, you wouldn't blow through a red light without looking in your car, would you? And a guy on a bike in traffic is pretty much bare-ass naked. There's no way in the world I would run a red light on a bicycle - but then I've been hit by a truck mirror while riding a bike.

Riding legally, I might add, and in the so-called "correct" lane, that is with my back turned to the two-ton cars overtaking me. Never Again, Never Never Never, will I ride a bike on the street in the same direction as the automobile traffic! I want to see the car that's coming to run me over, so I at least have a chance of swerving out of the way.

Often times (at least over here), the bike lane is also the bus lane on certain streets over here. That is just wrong. A bus is in a rush, and having a colossal behemoth chasing down a cyclist with a top speed of 40 MPH is a big no no. I ride on the sidewalk, and I will keep riding regardless if I'm being ticketed.

In my experience bicyclists ignoring traffic laws is the rule more than the exception. I think it may come down to some missplaced feelings of right of way.
